AI Connections: Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another AI assistant to your account, then ask it in plain words to build lists, write campaigns, send them and report the results.
With AI Connections, an AI assistant you already use can work in your account for you. You type what you want in the chat, for example "Make a campaign for my VIP list announcing our Eid sale, and send me a test first", and the assistant does it: it finds the list, writes the email, saves it as a draft and sends you a test.
The assistant works as you. It can only do what your own login and your plan allow, and it can only see your account. Before it sends a campaign or deletes anything, it must show you what will happen and wait for your yes.
There are two ways to connect:
- Claude and ChatGPT — you add Mailkoo once in the assistant's settings and click Allow. No code and no key.
- Claude Code, Cursor and other tools — you create an API key in Mailkoo and paste it into the tool.
What you can do with AI Connections: Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants
Work by chat
Ask for lists, segments, campaigns and reports in plain words, in any language the assistant understands.
Write and send campaigns
The assistant drafts the email, sends you a test and schedules or sends it after you agree.
Manage your audience
Add contacts, tag them, unsubscribe them and build segments from rules.
Get reports
Ask how a campaign did: opens, clicks, replies, conversions and the most clicked links.
Use your templates
Start campaigns from a gallery design or your own template, with your signature.
Read replies
See who wrote back to a campaign and what they said.
Landing pages and sales
Create and publish landing pages and sign-up forms, and see visitors, sign-ups and sales.
Keep your list clean
Verify lists, manage the blacklist, and set up sending domains, senders and warmup.
Stay in control
Sending and deleting always need your confirmation, and every change is logged.
Limit what a key can do
Give each API key only the permissions it needs: read, write, send, delete.
Find your server address
Every connection starts from the same address, shown on the AI Connections page.
-
Open AI Connections
In the left sidebar, click AI Connections (1). You can also reach it from your account settings, where it is listed as AI Connections (2).
The page has five parts: Mailkoo MCP server, How to connect, API keys, Connected apps and Recent agent activity.
-
Copy the server address
Under Mailkoo MCP server, the address (1) ends in
/mcp, for examplehttps://app.your-company.com/mcp. Click Copy (2). You will paste it into your AI assistant in the next section. The How to connect tabs (Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor / VS Code) repeat the steps below with your own address already filled in.
Connect Claude
Works in claude.ai in the browser and in the Claude desktop and mobile apps. You add the connector once; it then works in every chat.
-
Add a custom connector in Claude
In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and click Add custom connector. Enter
Mailkooas the name and paste your server address. Click Add.On the AI Connections page, the Claude tab (1) lists the same steps with your own address (2) filled in.
The names of Claude's own menus can change over time; look for Connectors in Claude's settings.
-
Sign in to Mailkoo and click Allow
Click Connect next to the new connector. A Mailkoo page opens. Sign in if you are asked to.
The page Connect an AI app to Mailkoo shows which app is asking and the address it will return to (1), and what it will be able to do (2). Check that the app is the one you just added, then click Allow (3).
You are taken back to Claude, and the connector shows as connected.
-
Turn Mailkoo on in a chat and ask
In a new chat, open the tools menu and make sure Mailkoo is switched on. Then ask, for example:
Show me my mail lists and how many subscribers each has.
The first time Claude uses a Mailkoo tool it may ask whether to allow it. You can allow it once or always.
Connect ChatGPT
ChatGPT adds your own connectors through its Developer mode. Which ChatGPT plans include it is decided by OpenAI.
-
Create a connector in ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors. Under Advanced, turn on Developer mode, then click Create.
Enter
Mailkooas the name, paste your server address as the MCP server URL and choose OAuth for authentication. Save.On the AI Connections page, the ChatGPT tab (1) lists the same steps with your own address (2) filled in.
-
Sign in to Mailkoo and click Allow
ChatGPT opens the Mailkoo sign-in page. Sign in, check the app name on Connect an AI app to Mailkoo, and click Allow. It is the same page as in Connect Claude, with ChatGPT's name.
-
Use Mailkoo in a chat
In a new chat, choose Mailkoo from the tools (+) menu, then ask what you need.
Connect Claude Code, Cursor or your own agent with an API key
Tools for developers, and agents you build yourself, sign in with an API key instead of the Allow page. A key works as your login, so create one per tool and give it only the permissions it needs.
-
Name the key and choose its permissions
On AI Connections, go to API keys. In Name (1), describe where the key will be used, for example Claude Code on my laptop.
Under Permissions (2), tick what the key may do:
Permission Allows Read See lists, subscribers, segments, campaigns, automations and reports. Always included. Write Create and edit lists, subscribers, segments and campaign drafts. Send Send, schedule, pause and resume campaigns; turn automations on or off. Delete Delete lists, subscribers and campaigns. Click Create API key (3).
-
Copy the key straight away
A green box shows the new key once. Click Copy (1) and keep it somewhere safe, such as a password manager. When you leave the page, the key cannot be shown again; if you lose it, create a new one.
-
Add the key to Claude Code
On AI Connections, open the Claude Code tab (1). It shows the command (2) with your address filled in. Replace
YOUR_API_KEYwith your key and run it once in a terminal:claude mcp add --transport http mailkoo https://<your app address>/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" -
Or add it to Cursor, VS Code or another tool
The Cursor / VS Code tab (1) shows the settings (2) to add to
~/.cursor/mcp.json, or to your editor's MCP settings. ReplaceYOUR_API_KEYwith your key.Other MCP tools need the same two things: the server address and the header
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY. -
Revoke a key you no longer use
Your keys are listed under API keys with their Permissions (1), when they were Created and when they Expire (one year after creation). Click Revoke (2) to switch a key off. Anything still using it stops working at once.
Work with the assistant
Talk to the assistant as you would to a colleague who knows your account. It looks up what it needs, so you do not have to give it codes or IDs.
-
Ask for what you need
Some examples:
- How did my last three campaigns do? Which one had the best open rate?
- Create a list called "Webinar 12 Dec" and add these contacts: followed by the emails and names.
- Make a segment of subscribers in my Customers list who have not opened anything in 90 days.
- Write a short campaign for the VIP list about our weekend offer, with a button to our shop, and save it as a draft.
- Send a test of that campaign to me.
- Schedule it for Friday at 10:00.
- Which automations are switched on?
- Show me the replies to last week's newsletter.
- Make the Black Friday campaign from the "Sale" template and add my signature.
- Which From addresses can I send from? Add the domain mybrand.com and tell me the DNS records.
- Verify my Customers list and tell me how many addresses are bad.
- Create a landing page for the webinar from a template and publish it.
- How much did I sell this month, per product?
- Which tags count as a conversion, and how did the last campaign convert?
-
Check drafts before they go out
A campaign the assistant creates is always saved as a draft first. Its answer includes a link to open the campaign in Mailkoo, where you can check the design, change the content or recipients, and look at the test email.
-
Confirm before anything is sent or deleted
Before anything that sends email, spends credits, goes live or cannot be undone, the assistant first shows you a summary. That covers sending, scheduling or resuming a campaign, switching on an automation, verifying a list, publishing a landing page or a form, starting a warmup, blacklisting addresses, changing a product's price or the conversion tags, and every delete. The summary says, for example, which campaign, the subject, the sender, how many people will receive it and when, or how many credits a verification uses.
Nothing has happened yet at this point. Read the summary and answer yes only if it is right. If you say no, or say nothing, nothing is sent or deleted.
See what the assistant did and disconnect it
-
Read the activity
Recent agent activity on the AI Connections page lists every change an assistant made in your account: which app, which action and when, for example Claude used Mailkoo to send a campaign (1). Something an assistant tried but could not do is marked with a red icon (2).
When an assistant sends a campaign or deletes something, you also get a notification in Mailkoo.
-
Disconnect an app
Connected apps lists every assistant you clicked Allow for, such as Claude or ChatGPT, and when it was connected. Click Disconnect (1) to sign it out at once. To use it again, connect it again from the assistant's settings.
Common questions
Can the assistant see other customers' data, or my passwords?
No. It works only inside your own account, with the same rights as your login. It never sees your password, your API token for the REST API, or sending server credentials.
Can the assistant send a campaign without asking me?
No. Sending, scheduling or resuming a campaign, switching on an automation, verifying a list, publishing a landing page or form, blacklisting, starting a warmup and every delete need a confirmation that only works after the assistant has shown you the summary. Saying yes in the chat is what lets it go ahead. Creating drafts, adding contacts and other edits do not need a confirmation, but they are logged.
Do plan limits and sending credits still apply?
Yes. Everything the assistant does counts against your plan exactly as if you did it yourself: number of lists and campaigns, subscribers, and sending credits.
The assistant says a sender address is not verified.
Campaigns can only use a sender address or domain you have verified. Verify it under sending settings (see the Sending guide), or ask the assistant to use one of your verified addresses.
The assistant says "Too many requests".
There is a limit on how many requests one user can make per minute. Wait a minute and ask again.
Can a team member use their own assistant?
Yes. Each person connects with their own Mailkoo login or their own API key, and the assistant gets that person's role. A team member with read-only access gets a read-only assistant.
